Theory of Operation:
• Pyrolysis is the decomposition of the organic matter by heating the sample in the absence of oxygen.
• The rock material is pulverized and weighed into a Rock-Eval 6 crucible and placed on the RE carousel.
• Along with total organic carbon (TOC), pyrolysis is one of the foundational rock analyses.
• Pyrolysis data can be used to calculate source rock kinetics, a powerful tool for delineating organofacies and zeroing in on sweet spots.
Analytical Procedure:
Pick obvious contaminants from the sample.
Pulverize the sample.
Weigh the sample.
Pour the sample into the RE-6 Crucible using a funnel.
Cap the crucible.
Place the crucible in the RE-6 Carousel
Analyze samples according to the instrument manual.
