Procedure Title: Whole Oil /Extract Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry ( WOGCMS) (Diamondoids analysis)
Instrumentation:
0
Trace 1310 Gas chromatograph with ISQ LT single quadrupole mass spectrometer0
Agilent (Hewlett Packard) HP 6890 GC /5973 MSD

Theory of Operation:
• Quantitative and qualitative analyses are performed on crude oils or extracts by injecting microliter volumes into a split/splitless injector. A GC capillary column is used to provide hydrocarbon separation. A mass selective detector provides ionization, fragmentation, filtration, and detection of diamondoids. GC-MS can be performed on whole oils saturate and aromatic fractions.
Analytical Procedure:
In a 2ml vial, take a known volume of the oil or the extract.
Add cholane (internal standard).
Add orthoterphenyl (OTP) (internal standard).
Add cyclohexane.
Cap the vial and mix it thoroughly.
Select the method and inject the oil into the GCMS according to the instruction manual.
