Mohammed Said, General Manager
Mohamed Said has over thirty years’ experience in oil and gas, having entered the industry in 1978 as a petroleum geologist, pressure evaluation specialist, and geochemist for Exploration Logging International, Incorporated (Exlog), where he worked alongside Tarek El Azhary. In 1989, Said and El Azhary formed StratoChem Services, an independent company specializing in organic geochemical evaluations. Today, StratoChem Services has grown to a seventy-person operation providing geochemical testing and interpretive services to companies across the globe. Said has worked extensively throughout the Middle East and Africa, participating in numerous regional studies (including source rock evaluation, characterization, oil-correlation and thermal maturity modeling), and has conducted surface prospecting studies for Conoco, Phillips, Repsol-YPF and TPIC. Said has also published a number of articles and been a frequent presenter at conferences around the world.
Tarek El Azhary, Operations Manager
El Azhary began over three decades of work in the geosciences with a position in Cairo University’s geology department, being promoted to assistant lecturer after receiving his M.Sc in 1979. In 1980, he was hand-picked to join a field study team contracted by Shell Egypt. He later worked alongside Mohamed Said as a petroleum geologist and geochemist with Exploration Logging (ExLog) International, Incorporated. In 1989, El Azhary and Said formed StratoChem Services, an independent company specializing in organic geochemical evaluations. Today, StratoChem Services has grown to a seventy-person operation providing geochemical testing and interpretative services to companies worldwide. El Azhary has years of experience in the MENA region, having participated in a vast array of geological studies in places as diverse as Egypt, Iran, and Somalia, as well as West Africa; he has published extensively. El Azhary has also been involved in the development of the Exlog P-K System for determining porosity and permeability of cuttings samples using nuclear magnetic resonance imaging.
Essam Ismail Mohamed, Kerogen Separation Lab Manager
Essam Ismail Mohamed began his career in the geosciences in 1991 as a geologist in the Cairo Project for Quarries and Production of Building Stone. Shortly thereafter, he joined StratoChem Services as a petroleum geologist and geochemist. Essam has gained extensive experience in the petroleum industry through participation in a multitude of geochemical studies in different basins throughout the Middle East. He has been involved in the geochemical evaluation of more than a thousand projects and prepared and given numerous courses in geochemistry.
Hossam Ali, Modeling and Projects Manager
Hossam Ali is a geochemist with eighteen years’ experience in the petroleum industry. He has gained extensive experience working with geochemical studies in different basins in the Middle East. He has been involved in geochemical evaluation of more than 2000 projects and individual wells. During Hossam’s time with StratoChem Services he has prepared and given many geochemistry courses for oil companies from countries as diverse as Egypt, Sudan, Iraq, Nigeria and Tunisia. Dr. Henry Halpern, Interpretation Advisor
Dr. Henry Halpern received his Ph.D. in organic geochemistry from the University of California-Los Angeles in 1981 and has been actively involved in the oil and gas industry ever since. Dr. Halpern worked as an exploration and research geochemist with Sohio, Arco and Shell before joining Saudi Aramco in 1992 in the same capacity. During his tenure at Aramco, Dr. Halpern also worked in development geochemistry before retiring in 2012 and joining StratoChem.
Shaaban M. Aly, Organic Petrologist
Shaaban M. Aly is a professional geologist with more than 36 years’ experience in the oil industry as a palynologist and organic petrologist. He has extensive experience in palynofacies and organic maturation using spore colour and vitrinite reflectance as well as palynological, palaeoclimatological, and palaeoenvironmental analysis in the Palaeozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras.
